For the 2nd time in less than 24 hours, your Gladwyne Firefighters assisted at another house fire, this time in the Merion section of Lower Merion. Engine 24 was dispatched along with Station 28 (Union, Station 22 (Belmont Hills Fire Company), Engine 26 Narberth Fire Company and Ladder 21 (Penn Wynne Fire Company - Station 21) on the initial report of a house fire in the 400 block of Pembroke Road in Merion. Engine 24 responded with 6 firefighters immediately after the dispatch and while enroute, Lieutenant 28 and Engine 28 (Union Fire Association of Bala Cynwyd) arrived and reported smoke showing from the front of the house. The Lower Merion working fire dispatch was transmitted, adding Air 24, Engine 25-1 (Merion Fire Company of Ardmore) and Squad 23 (Bryn Mawr) along with Narberth Ambulance and DELCO Rescue 56 (Manoa Fire Company - Station 56).

Upon arrival of Engine 24 (2nd due Engine) command requested that the crew assist with ventilation and stretching a 2nd hand line to the 2nd floor above the fire and open up the walls to ensure the fire was not extending.

DELCO Rescue 56 while enroute to the fire, came upon a pedestrian struck up the street from the fire scene and they stopped and immediately started treating the patient until Narberth Ambulance arrived and transported the patient to the hospital.

The homeowners reported that there was no occupants left in the house, but the families two cats were still inside. While the crews were extinguishing the fire, the were also searching for the cats. Fortunately, Firefighter Sam Leis located both of the cats and removed them from the house. Other than them being scared, both cars were handed over to neighbors to care for them.

Good job to all of the Firefighters who responded to this incident and quickly brought the fire under control.
