Gladwyne Fire Company was dispatched Sunday afternoon for a vehicle fire on Mill Creek Road. Engine 24, with a crew of seven, responded immediately following dispatch. Chief 24 (Leis) arrived on location and updated responding units that the one vehicle had left the roadway and came to rest in Mill Creek with one occupant trapped. As the situation changed, members of Gladwyne Fire Company adapted for water rescue operations.
Two FF/EMT's from Engine 24 began patient care while the rest of the crew secured the vehicle with roping and stabilization techniques. Members from Gladwyne and Ardmore Fire Companies assisted with the rescue by placing ground ladders nearby the vehicle for extrication and a down stream safety team. Once extricated from the vehicle, the occupant was transported via Narberth Ambulance to a local hospital.
Lower Merion Police Department is investigating the cause of the crash.
